January 2020 Theme: Sculptor Augusta Savage

“I have created nothing really beautiful, really lasting, but if I can inspire one of

these youngsters to develop the talent I know they posses, then my monument

will be in their work.” -Augusta Savage

Time:

Fridays @ 10am or 11am PST OR

Saturdays @ 10am or 11am PST

Ages: 3-17

Class Size: 8 households (Invite the whole fam!)

Goals:

Have a blast!

Learn about Black, Harlem Renaissance artist Augusta Savage

Create our own unique works by studying Savage’s sculptures

Older students will assist in reading story books to younger students

All students will be encouraged to speak in front of the group about their work-

their process, their materials, their feelings

Have an end-of-the-month review discussion guided by Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory

Have a gallery party wherein we show our class where our work is displayed in the home and tell our gallery-goers about our piece

Schedule:

Over each 45 minutes, we will begin with a warm-up drawing and share that work.

We may read a story, work on our main creations and discuss our work.

We always say goodbye with air high-fives and a silly imagination-based outro
